Revolutionising Waste Management: SMS Equipment in Circular Economy

13. - 17. May 2024, Munich - Germany

Buss-SMS-Canzler’s technology is reshaping waste management strategies and driving the transition towards a circular economy.

Buss-SMS-Canzler's 2-stage drying process reduces heating energy consumption by 45%.

With its innovative 2-stage drying process, Buss-SMS-Canzler has transformed traditional drying methods, leading to a significant reduction of 45% in heating energy consumption. This groundbreaking technology has revolutionised waste management practices, making them more sustainable and efficient.

The traditional drying techniques often require a substantial amount of energy input, and the heating energy is mostly used only once. However, the 2-stage drying process introduced by Buss-SMS-Canzler capitalizes on the principle of multiple effect evaporation commonly used in evaporation technology.

By operating under vacuum conditions in stage 1 and atmospheric conditions in stage 2, this process enables a lower evaporation temperature in stage 1, resulting in considerable energy savings.

One of the key advantages of this innovative design is the recovery of energy, released during condensation in stage 2. This energy is then utilised to heat stage 1.

The 2-stage drying process developed by Buss-SMS-Canzler has proven to be highly effective, achieving optimal performance by efficiently applying products in a thin film on the heated wall. This approach not only enhances the effectiveness of the drying process but also makes it particularly suitable for various applications, including the drying of sewage sludge.

The Impact of SMS Equipment on PET Recycling

PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a commonly used plastic in various industries, particularly in the production of beverage bottles. However, the improper disposal of PET bottles leads to environmental pollution and the waste of valuable resources.

SMS equipment addresses this challenge by enabling the efficient recycling of PET. Through advanced technologies and processes for the thermal separation of substances which are difficult to handle, SMS equipment effectively transforms PET waste into high-quality recycled PET (rPET). These rPET materials can then be used in the production of new PET products, reducing the need for virgin plastic and minimising the environmental impact.

Compared to producing new PET from crude oil, PET recycling requires significantly less energy to produce vPET. Overall, PET recycling is an efficient and environmentally friendly method to convert PET waste into valuable resources and contribute to sustainability in the plastics industry.

In addition to its role in PET recycling, SMS technology paves the way for a more sustainable future by enabling the production of bioplastics such as PLA and PEF.

Efficient Chemical Polymer Recycling Methods

Chemical polymers, such as ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride), are widely used in various industries but often end up as waste after their initial use. SMS equipment addresses this challenge by providing innovative recycling solutions for chemical polymers.

Through advanced technologies and processes, SMS thin film evaporators enable the separation and purification of monomers from polymers, transforming them into high-quality recycled materials. These materials can then be used in the production of new products, reducing the reliance on virgin resources and minimising waste.
